Douglas Netherlands Review (2026): Shipping, Returns, Beauty Card and the ‘Adviesprijs’

Disclosure: This is an independent guide based on Douglas’s own published policies and the prices on douglas.nl at the time of writing. We may earn a commission from some links on this site; it never changes what we recommend.

If you buy perfume or skincare in the Netherlands, you’ve almost certainly ended up on douglas.nl. It’s the default for a lot of people: big brands, a store in most town centres, free returns and next-day delivery. It’s also a site where nearly every product seems to be 20 to 40% off, every day of the year.

That’s worth understanding before you buy. This guide goes through how douglas.nl prices things, what shipping and returns actually cost, the small print that can quietly undo a discount, and how the Beauty Card loyalty programme works, so you know when a deal is a deal.

Quick answer: Douglas.nl is the Dutch webshop of Douglas, the German beauty retailer. Delivery is free from €25 (€3.95 below that, or free to a Douglas store), and orders placed before 22:00 on a weekday usually arrive the next day. Returns are free within 14 days via DHL or a Douglas store. The crossed-out “adviesprijs” on most products is the brand’s recommended retail price, not an earlier Douglas price, so the “% off” is less meaningful than it looks. Some products are sold by Douglas partners: those ship separately, take 2 to 4 days, and don’t get promo-code discounts. Join the free Beauty Card to earn 1 point per euro.

What douglas.nl is

Douglas started as a soap maker in Hamburg in 1821 and is now one of Europe’s biggest beauty retailers. In the Netherlands it runs physical stores alongside douglas.nl and the Douglas app, and all three share one loyalty account, the Beauty Card.

The range covers perfume, make-up, skincare, haircare and body care, from mass brands up to Chanel, Dior and Lancôme, plus Douglas’s own label, Douglas Collection. What isn’t obvious at first is that douglas.nl is partly a marketplace. Some products are shipped by Douglas partners, other retailers selling through the site. You can see which on the product page or during checkout, and it matters more than you’d think (more on that below).

The adviesprijs: what the crossed-out price means

douglas.nl search results showing the adviesprijs and selling price for Dior Sauvage

Almost every listing on douglas.nl shows two prices: a small “Adviesprijs*” and a bigger price underneath. The adviesprijs is the recommended retail price set by the brand. It isn’t what Douglas charged last month, and on many products you’ll rarely see anyone sell at that price.

Here’s what that looked like on a handful of best-sellers when we checked:

Product Adviesprijs Douglas.nl “Saving”
Dior Sauvage Eau de Toilette, 60 ml €99,00 €78,99 20%
Clinique Moisture Surge 100H, 75 ml €59,00 €44,25 25%
Armani Sì Eau de Parfum, 50 ml €139,00 €90,35 35%
Lancôme Idôle Eau de Parfum, 100 ml €173,00 €113,00 35%
Lancôme La vie est belle (refillable), 100 ml €174,00 €99,00 43%
Hugo Boss Boss Bottled Eau de Toilette, 100 ml €119,00 €53,99 55%
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Toilette, 100 ml none shown €148,00 –

Two things stand out. First, a 55% “saving” on Boss Bottled says more about the recommended price than about Douglas. Second, Chanel shows no adviesprijs at all: it sells at one price, and you’ll see the same number at other retailers. That’s a useful benchmark. Where a brand doesn’t allow discounting, Douglas doesn’t pretend to.

So treat the adviesprijs as background noise. If you want to know whether €90,35 for Armani Sì is good, compare it with the same size at another shop, or wait for one of Douglas’s own promotions, which come on top of the everyday price.

How the extra promotions work

Douglas runs codes and themed deals constantly: when we checked there was a “-25% vanaf €10” on selected dermatological skincare, Member Weeks deals for Beauty Card members, and a welcome gift for new members with the code NEWMEMBER. Three rules from the terms are worth knowing:

  • Promotions can’t be combined. One code per order online (in-store you can use more than one coupon).
  • Discounts don’t apply to products shipped by Douglas partners. If a code seems to “not work” on part of your basket, that’s usually why.
  • Coupons with a minimum spend can be clawed back. If you return something and your order drops below the coupon’s minimum, the whole coupon discount is deducted from your refund.

Delivery: free from €25, usually next day

Standard delivery within the Netherlands is free on orders of €25 or more. Below that it’s €3.95, unless you have it delivered to a Douglas store, which is always free. The basket tells you how much you’re short of free shipping.

Orders shipped by Douglas itself usually arrive in 1 to 2 working days, and the site promises that weekday orders placed before 22:00 are normally delivered the next day. Partner products take 2 to 4 working days and come in a separate parcel with their own tracking.

Option Good to know
Home (DHL or Budbee) With DHL you can usually pick a time slot: 11:00 to 15:00 or 17:30 to 21:30 on weekdays, and 11:00 to 15:00 or 16:00 to 21:30 on Saturdays.
Letterbox parcel Small orders may be sent automatically in a box that fits through your letterbox. You don’t choose this; Douglas’s logistics team does.
DHL ServicePoint or Budbee locker Useful if you’re out during the day.
Douglas store Free whatever the order value, and you can choose to pay when you collect.
Work or gift address Douglas never puts an invoice in the parcel, only a delivery note and return form, so gifts don’t give the price away.

Two small things. Douglas.nl only delivers to addresses in the Netherlands, and it doesn’t deliver to PO boxes. And credit card orders can be held for an extra working day for a fraud check.

Returns: free, 14 days, three ways

You can return an online order free of charge within 14 days. Register it first at retour.douglas.nl with your order number and email address, then drop it off in one of three ways:

  • DHL ServicePoint: print a label, or write the code from DHL’s email (it starts with JVG) on the box and show the QR code at the counter.
  • DHL parcel locker: same idea. QR returns only work at DHL’s own lockers, not De Buren lockers.
  • A Douglas store.

Once Douglas has received and approved the return, the refund is processed within 3 to 5 working days to your original payment method. A few catches:

  • Paid with Klarna? You can’t return in a store. Klarna orders go back by DHL or Budbee only.
  • Send back any free gift or samples that came with the product you’re returning.
  • Opened sealed products that can’t be resold for hygiene reasons can be excluded from the return right. If you’re unsure about a foundation shade, don’t break the seal.
  • Partner products follow the return instructions on the form that came in their parcel, not the Douglas portal.
  • Paid with a gift card? That part of the refund comes back as a digital gift card.

Paying

Douglas.nl takes iDEAL | Wero, Klarna (pay now, or pay within 30 days), Dutch credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Diners Club, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Douglas gift cards. If you’re collecting in a store you can also pay there.

One quirk: you can’t pay online with a Fashioncheque or VVV Cadeaubon directly. You first convert it into a Douglas e-voucher on a separate page, then use that at checkout. PayPal isn’t on the list.

The Beauty Card: how the points add up

The Beauty Card is free and is really just your Douglas account. Signing up and subscribing to the newsletter gets you 50 Beauty Points, and new members can claim a gift with their first online order (via the NEWMEMBER code when we checked). After that:

What How it works
Earning 1 Beauty Point and 1 Status Point per euro, online or in Dutch stores (log in, or have your card scanned). No points on gift cards, books or shipping.
Reviews 5 Beauty Points per product review, up to 5 a day and 10 a month.
Status Beauty Card (0 to 149 Status Points a year), Gold (150 to 499) and Platinum (500+). Higher status unlocks better member offers.
Spending points In the basket under “Beauty Points inwisselen”, or in a Dutch store. Spending points doesn’t lower your status.
Waiting time New points only appear after 14 days.
Expiry Points earned at the basic level last one year; points earned at Gold or Platinum last two. The oldest points are used first.

The thresholds are low: €150 a year gets you to Gold. If you buy your perfume and skincare at Douglas anyway, there’s no reason not to log in before you pay. Just note that a Dutch Beauty Card only works on douglas.nl, in the app and in Dutch stores, so the points don’t travel with you to Douglas in other countries.

How we’d shop douglas.nl

  1. Log in first, so every euro earns Beauty Points and Status Points.
  2. Ignore the adviesprijs. Compare the actual price with another shop, or wait for a code that stacks on the everyday price.
  3. Check who ships it. If it says a Douglas partner, expect a separate parcel, a longer wait and no promo discount.
  4. Use the free samples. Douglas lets you pick two samples with an order, which is the cheapest way to test a perfume before buying a full bottle.
  5. Don’t open sealed products you might return, and keep any gift that came with them.
  6. Watch the coupon minimum if you plan to send something back.

Frequently asked questions

Is douglas.nl reliable?

Yes. It’s the Dutch webshop of Douglas, a beauty retailer founded in Hamburg in 1821 with stores across Europe, including in the Netherlands. Orders shipped by Douglas usually arrive in 1 to 2 working days and returns are free.

How much is shipping at Douglas Netherlands?

Free on orders of €25 or more. Below €25 it’s €3.95, unless you choose delivery to a Douglas store, which is always free.

What is the Douglas.nl return policy?

You can return online orders free of charge within 14 days through retour.douglas.nl, via a DHL ServicePoint, a DHL parcel locker or a Douglas store. Klarna orders can’t be returned in store. Refunds are processed within 3 to 5 working days after approval.

What does “adviesprijs” mean on Douglas?

It’s the brand’s recommended retail price. The larger price below it is what Douglas charges. It isn’t a previous Douglas price, so the percentage “saving” isn’t a reliable sign of a deal.

How do Beauty Points work at Douglas?

You earn 1 Beauty Point per euro spent online or in Dutch stores, plus 5 points per product review. Points appear after 14 days and can be swapped for a discount in the basket. They last one year at the basic level, and two years at Gold or Platinum.

Why doesn’t my Douglas discount code work on every product?

Codes don’t apply to products shipped by Douglas partners, can’t be combined with other promotions, and don’t work on gift cards. Check whether the item is sold by a partner.

The short version

Douglas.nl is an easy, reliable place to buy beauty in the Netherlands: free delivery from €25, next-day delivery most of the time, and free 14-day returns with plenty of drop-off options. The thing to watch is the pricing. Read the adviesprijs as a recommended price rather than a discount, check whether a product comes from a partner, and log in so the Beauty Points add up.
